Burns Night Supper Done Right With Hog Roast Brill

Hog Roast BrillThis week millions of Scots will have celebrated the brilliant Burns Night with the traditional haggis, neeps, and tatties supper, and the incredible ‘Address to a Haggis’ poem from Robert Burns. At Hog Roast Brill, we were delighted to have partaken in our own Burns Suppers with some of our customers this week too.

‘Burns Night’ is an annual tradition celebrated across the world, but particularly in Scotland, to herald the late great poet, Robert Burns. Burns’ poetry is renowned across the world with such pieces as ‘Auld Lang Syne’ still recited all over the globe to mark the New Year. Burns Night celebrate his life and work on the day of his birth, the 25th January. The occasion itself is an important piece of heritage for Scotland, and one that most Scots look forward to celebrating each year.

Hog Roast BrillAs a caterer ourselves that specialises in stylish roast dining, Burns supper is exciting to us too as it is right in our wheelhouse of novel dining experiences with a bit of a twist. The Hog Roast Brill team were delighted to be invited out to a massive Burns celebration this year to provide catering to a Burns recital and ceilidh. The occasions saw hundreds gather in a grand hall where a couple of guest speakers and poets took to the stage and brilliantly recited some of Burns’ best work. In the meantime, our Hog Roast Brill chefs were busy preparing a three-course dinner beginning with Scottish smoked salmon and ending with our homemade cheesecakes. The main was a mix of our hog roast speciality with the traditional haggis neeps and tatties – a perfect blend of our tradition with Scots tradition!

Of course, our main was preceded by the traditional ‘Address to a Haggis’ recited by one of the guest poets (and done so brilliantly, might we say) before our serves came out with the much-heralded haggis. Dinner was followed by a ceilidh of traditional Scottish dances, though our chefs couldn’t be quite tempted to come out for the ‘Gay Gordons’ as we instead had to pack away our equipment and head off.

It was an excellent evening for the Hog Roast Brill team, and we would love to return another year for another Address!
